Medical students from the University of Bristol spent time at Riversway Nursing Home to gain an insight into dementia care and other topics.
The students spent two days learning, with time spent with Riversway’s experts including Lisa Hodge-Dean, dementia carer, Jakki Whitehead, Admiral Nurse and Marilisa Chies, our lifestyle team leader.
Riversway organised and delivered a programme full of games, examples of care including sensory activities and collage creation, emotional moments and fun.
It was a great experience to see future doctors gain knowledge of working with older people, and how communication and awareness of everything from body language will help them to offer a person-centred care.
Thanks to both the students, for engaging with the residents in such a lovely way, and to our residents for getting involved!
