On the boat with Riversway

on .

It was all hands on deck recently for residents from Riversway Nursing Home.

A group of residents and staff took to the water at Baltic Wharf in Bristol with support from the All Aboard Watersports Centre, who made the trip really enjoyable.

After getting kitted out in life vests and following a briefing from the crew, the team spent time enjoying the water and seeing the sights surrounding the marina, they watched people learning to sail and paddle board and they commented ‘it was amazing to see’.

Joyce and Monica reminisced about when they used to go on holiday on the cruise ships and they also talked about when the S.S Great Britain returned home to Bristol to dry dock in the 70’s, it was all fascinating to listen to.

It was a relaxing sunny day out and afterwards when it started to become a little bit chilly, we stopped off at a local pub for a good old fish & chip supper washed down with a nice warm cuppa.

It was a great adventure and we are looking forward to going again next year.

Printing with Becky

on .

We love doing new things at Riversway Nursing Home and recently when we had our planned art activity with Becky, we decided to ‘set up shop’ outdoors.

It was such a beautiful day and being outside was very fitting for what we were going to be working on, so it didn’t take us long to move everything onto the sheltered patio area.

We had an amazing afternoon designing and creating two printed banners for our garden, how lovely do they look?  We really enjoyed choosing what shapes and colours to use and then we stamped the shapes of birds, boats, buckets and spades to our hearts content, it was very therapeutic and very rewarding.

Printing with Becky is a great fun and we look forward to her next visit very soon.

Ps:  Check out the photo of Becky in front of our banners, how lovely is her hand printed dress?

A history trip to Clevedon Pier

on .

This month a small group of inquisitive Riversway residents went on an exciting learning journey, discovering lots of interesting facts about the famous Clevedon Pier.

Our ladies and gentlemen enjoyed a presentation from Clevedon Pier Heritage Trust in which they talked about the history of the Victorian pier and how it’s currently being preserved.

Clevedon Pier, situated by the beautiful seaside town of Clevedon is the only grade one listed pier which you can visit in England - this made everyone at the home extremely excited to have a day trip there following the informative presentation about its history.

As our residents and staff team looked out over the view at the pier they reminisced about their own seaside experiences as youngsters.

Thank you to everyone at the Pier Heritage Trust for making the experience a memorable one – we all really enjoy learning new things.

Teenager takeover

on .

Teenagers from across the country joined together to take over the activities calendar at Riversway Nursing Home.

As part of the National Citizen Service (NCS), 15 to 17 year olds get together over the school holidays to build new skills and take on new challenges.

More than 400,000 young adults take part in the initiative each year where they undertake four phases including adventure, discovery, social action and celebration.

Riversway are proud to be part of the social action phase which allows a group of youngsters the chance to come into the home and deliver a community project.

This year the teens supported the activities calendar which saw them get involved with afternoon tea, ball games, one to one sessions, a bbq, seated salsa and other fitness classes.

Thank you to the teenagers who volunteered throughout the week at Riversway Nursing Home, you made a huge difference and lifted everyone’s spirits.
