A treat for the senses

on .

At Riversway we know the senses play an important role in care, and regularly incorporate this into activities.

So recently we helped residents explore the smell and textures of various sensory items, making play dough from icing sugar, and creating models.

Residents also got the chance to touch soft noodles and compare the textures of different items.

Everyone agreed they'd enjoyed the sensory afternoon and asked for a repeat session ASAP

Two trips, two castles

on .

Recently residents from Riversway visited not one but two castles!

One a pub not too far from Riversway Nursing Home called the Black Castle, was our port of call on a very rainy day and everyone was delighted to report back that the Black Castle has beautiful interiors, a good selection of drinks and tasty grub.

The second, Blaize Castle House Museum, is a treasure trove of wonderful and interesting items which show how people in Bristol used to live.  The castle is set in acres of stunning parkland but due to the rain we spent most of our visit in the house museum looking at old toys and a very old school room.   The rain did however manage to hold off whilst we visited the ice cream van in the park.  Shelby and Doris really enjoyed this part of our day!

The rain may have changed our original planned day out, but in the end we came out winners!

A day at the beach

on .

We’re lucky at Riversway Nursing Home to have some wonderful attractions nearby.

Recently we visited Weston-Super-Mare to enjoy fish and chips and the sights and sounds of the lovely seaside town.

Also on the agenda was buying sweets, feeding seagulls, touching the the sand and enjoying the fresh breeze and sunshine.

Getting creative with clay

on .

A recent activity at Riversway Nursing Home saw residents getting creative with clay.

Different tools were used for the textures needed, and creating different patterns including shells, ropes and stones.

It was a great way to spend some time, and better still the creations made will last and be enjoyed for a long time to come!

Mac’s day out

on .

Our lifestyle team recently helped our resident Mac enjoy her first day out from Riversway.

During a half-day out at a recent weekend, we helped Mac spend time by the river, enjoying cream tea at a café.

We made plenty of new friends during our time out, fed pigeons, saw a rowing team practising on the water, picked flowers and found feathers and even cherries.

It was a wonderful trip and we hope to help as Mac enjoys more days out.
